Joan works beautifully in a variety of different woven fabrics. We recommend using a medium weight drapey fabric with some structure – you don’t want to use anything too lightweight and fluid. For the cooler months lightweight wools work gorgeously and suiting fabrics are perfect. Crepes would be stunning. For the lining we like to use rayon, a lightweight crepe de chine or acetate.

It uses 2 1/2″ strips and was designed with Jelly roll strips in mind although any fabric can be used. If you are looking for a project that is a bit different then this is great. The woven sides are fun to put together and there is lots of opportunity for adding decorative quilting or interesting colour combinations.
The Alberta Street Pencil Skirt is a great classic silhouette for any season. It is a slim fitting, unlined skirt with little to no ease in the hips with a tapered hem that lands just below the knees. It features a contoured waistband that sits just below the waist, angled and oversized front patch pockets, double back darts, a back vent and center back zipper. The instructions call for a set in back zipper however, an invisible zipper could easily be substituted for an intermediate or advanced sewist.
Flattering and easy to wear, the Tea House is a great pattern with a variety of options for different looks. Use a fabric with some drape for a vintage inspired look while a cotton yarn dyed stripe can lend a more modern feel.
The Tea House features: a V-neckline with front and back neck yokes, front seaming, in-seam angled pockets (for the dress versions), a back neck box pleat, cuffed dolman short sleeves and two different tie options. Views A, B, & C feature wide under the bust, inseam ties that can be tied behind the back or doubled around to the front. Views D, E & F feature a spaghetti waist tie that threads through a back tunnel and can be tied in the front or for just a bit of waist definition, tied behind the back. There are three different length options – views A & D are hip length tops, views B & E are above the knee length dresses and views C & F are tea length dresses. There are no closures to sew – just slip it on over the head and tie!

The Hudson pant is the piece of clothing that you will wear all of the time. It is comfortable enough to wear around the house, but can easily be dressed up to go run errands. The urban fit of these pants leaves a bit of extra room around the hips and then tapers into a skinny leg. View A is a full length pant and View B is mid-calf.

NOTIONS -Coordinating thread, 2 inch wide elastic (1 1/2 yds), 1/4” wide cording (2 yds), 2 x 1 inch scrap of fusible interfacing, ballpoint sewing needle.
The Nikko pattern includes four views, all with a simple and stylish mock turtleneck.
