Bra Making

Excited to bring you a New Workshop – Introducing Bra Making with the wonderful Mandy Bengeyfield

During this course we will take a look at how a typical underwired bra works, using the Freja pattern from PinUp Girls. This pattern features a lace upper cup.

You will become familiar with the fabrics and other components that go into making a bra and learn the various construction techniques involved. Sewing a bra is not particularly difficult in itself but some aspects of it are not necessarily familiar to most of us!
Sewing the bra is one thing – having it fit perfectly is quite another!

Once your first bra is complete we will assess the fit and go from there.
The aim of this workshop is to provide the knowledge and skills to sew a bra together and will have gained a general understanding of the various alterations that may be needed to achieve the fit (and shape) that you would like.

Timetable
Please note all timings are approximate depending on numbers and previous
sewing experience.
Day One
The object of the course is to become familiar with all the different components that go into an underwired bra and to learn how to put them all together. You’ll be making a sample bra in the size closest to your measurements – but please be aware that your very first bra will probably not fit perfectly!

Day Two
Finalise sewing your bra.
A comfortable well-fitting bra depends largely on correctly-fitting underwires. I will be doing fittings for each of you. This will involve stripping to the waist (you, not me) as the wires need to be fitted to the naked chest. If this presents a difficulty for you please let me know privately beforehand.

Try on your bra! As a group or individually – depending on what everyone is comfortable with – we will assess the fit of your bra.
Time permitting, I’ll fit your finished bra and make a note of any adjustments you might need.
As an optional extra I will take your pattern away with me and adjust your pattern accordingly to help you on your way to a custom fit. Your adjusted pattern will be posted back to you in 7-10 days. The fee for this service is £6.95.

Just your lovely self and your basic sewing kit to include pins marking tools, if you have a pair of duck-billed/applique scissors they will come in very handy

A full bra-making kit plus sewing instructions and underwires are included in this course.

Patterns for you to trace off for personal use only will also be available.
