BURNSIDE BIBS- SEW HOUSE SEVEN

the Burnside Bibs are not your traditional work overalls. Yes they are comfortable and easy to wear, yet they are much more stylish and feminine than traditional versions. The straps that transition to narrower ties offer many options for how they can be tied. And…like so many sewing patterns, we as sewists are able to influence how casual or dressed up they become simply by fabric choice. Choose a fabric with some drape such as Tencel and pair them with a silk blouse and some heels for a dressed up look. Use a more traditional denim or linen and wear them with a tee shirt, sneakers or clogs and take a more casual approach.

Options & Features:

The Burnside Bibs have two front bib options – a scooped neck or the traditional straight front. Both bibs work with either version #1 or version #2.

Version #1 is a more fitted back pant with back waist darts and an invisible side zipper opening, however, the ties still form a small amount of gathers at the back waist.

Version #2 is a looser back pant that slips on over your hips and does not have a closure to sew. This version is fuller and more gathered in the back. Use your hip measurement to determine your size for version #2.

Both versions also feature a front waistband, curved front patch pockets, optional back pockets, and cross-back straps that transition to narrower ties that thread through back waist belt loops forming back waist gathers. They may be tied in many ways – at the back, front or sides. The legs are somewhat wide and can be made full length or cropped.

The pattern features a faux double welt slip pocket, a zip pocket with facing and handles which slip strikingly through the ultra secure flap.

Description

This versatile raglan sweatshirt is designed specifically for knit fabrics and can be sewn either as a front-zip hoodie with princess-seam details and a kangaroo pocket or as a pull-on sweatshirt with color-blocked sleeves. Slightly boxy in shape with a double-fold hem that dips a little lower in back for extra coverage, both styles include a contrast-fabric detail and the pieces can be mixed and matched to create other unique styles.

THE ALBERT SKIRT

The Alberta Street Pencil Skirt is a great classic silhouette for any season. It is a slim fitting, unlined skirt with little to no ease in the hips with a tapered hem that lands just below the knees. It features a contoured waistband that sits just below the waist, angled and oversized front patch pockets, double back darts, a back vent and center back zipper. The instructions call for a set in back zipper however, an invisible zipper could easily be substituted for an intermediate or advanced sewist.

Joan Dress

Joan Dress – Vintage Inspired Sew Pattern 

Fitted bodice and skirt gives the dress a sassy, feminine feel. The bodice is fitted with darts at the waist and back shoulder, and features a gently scooped neckline. Stylish ¾ length sleeves and a 60s inspired tie collar give the dress a super elegant feel. Designed to hit below the knee, the skirt is semi-fitted with darts and sports a kick pleat at the back hem. The whole dress is fully lined, giving you a gorgeously professional-feeling finish.

The Joan Dress comes in UK sizes 8-20 and is aimed at intermediate dressmakers who have made a few garments before.

Joan works beautifully in a variety of different woven fabrics. We recommend using a medium weight drapey fabric with some structure – you don’t want to use anything too lightweight and fluid. For the cooler months lightweight wools work gorgeously and suiting fabrics are perfect. Crepes would be stunning. For the lining we like to use rayon, a lightweight crepe de chine or acetate.

The booklet contains full instructions with beautifully illustrated diagrams.
