Westalee Quilting Techniques

September 3, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

£65.00

We’re so please to be able to welcome Angie Attwood back to the studio and teach us more about the wonderful affects that can be created with teh Westalee rulers.

We are maintaining social distancing during our workshops,  to ensure your safety and that you get the best out of your experience.  We have invested in a bank of i-pad/tablets so that you are able to view the demonstrations without having to huddle around in a group (this way you will have front row viewing too). Angela will also circulate the studio so that she can work  1-to-1 with you- wearing appropriate PPE for  both your safety and ensure your Westalee techniques are correct. During theses times we do request that attendees wear face coverings we also provide each person with a visor.

Transform your Free Motion Quilting (FMQ) and take your quilting to another level in this one-day workshop with Westalee Accredited Tutor Angela Attwood.

Westalee rulers can enable you to stitch a large range of beautiful and creative FMQ patterns and designs to compliment your quilt in a controlled way, all on your home sewing machine.

Angela will cover all the essentials to get you going using Westalee rulers for basic designs using just the starter 12″ arc ruler and the spacing gauge.

Several elements will be covered on this interactive day including, attaching the Westalee foot and setting the height correctly, holding and using the standard ruler to good effect and using ruler markings

There will be plenty of hands on practice and you will make 3-4 sample blocks to showcase the skills learnt on the day.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Please bring a Packed lunch- we will break at an appropriate time so that members do not get stiff and sore from sitting for sustained duration- we do politely request that attendees do frequent the studio at this time for personal rest-bite and additional fresh air – allowing the tutor time for a break and a your host to complete a mid day clean down.

To attend this class you will need the appropriate Westalee equipment for your machine:

  • Westalee Ruler Foot & 12″ Arc Ruler (Starter Set product codes: 11618/11619/11620/11621) *see notes below
  • Spacing Gauge (11829 – this no longer comes in the Starter Set therefore you may need to purchase separately)
  • Extension table for your machine.
  • Sewing Machine with drop feed – (if you have an electronic machine with stop/start button please bring your foot pedal!)
  • Extension table for your machine (the studio do have a couple that would need to be booked at the time of booking the course)

  • 4 quilt sandwiches approximately 10’’ square – for sample 6” stitched patterns – suggest good quality plain cotton fabric (preferably not white, cream or calico)

If you do not already own a Westalee Ruler Foot Starter Set it may be possible for you to attend this workshop on a ‘try before you buy’ basis by prior arrangement. Please contact Amanda with the make & model of your machine and the workshop date you’re interested in to see if this can be arranged.

If you wish to purchase prior then the Westalee Ruler Feet and Rulers can be purchased from Cotton Patch (www.cottonpatch.co.uk), where you will find a very useful ebook to help you to work out which is the correct version for your machine. Any query regarding the type of foot needed please contact Jayne on 0121 702 2840 or at mailorder@cottonpatch.co.uk and she will be happy to help.
