Make A Dress To Impress – Charlotte Newland

Need a frock to rock or a dress to impress this summer, then come and spend a weekend with Charlotte Newland and make the dress of your dreams.
This two-day class is designed for students who know how to sew but want to learn how to make a dress that fits beautifully. Working with the dress pattern of your choice (for woven fabrics only)
We keep this class to just six students to ensure you will receive plenty of one on one time with Charlotte and fitting advice tailored specifically to your body.
- The main focus of this workshop will be on fitting – depending on your level of sewing and pattern choice it is unlikely your dress will be completely finished in two days but well on the way.
Day One:
Charlotte will show and teach you tips and techniques for taking accurate measurements, making a muslin, evaluating fit, basic pattern adjustments (blending between sizes, bust adjustments, lengthening/shortening) and altering your pattern.
Day Two:
You will start to cut out and put you You’ll leave class with a finished muslin and a corrected pattern so you can make the dress of your dreams at home!
Students are welcome to bring two patterns to class – depending on your personal pace you may be able to start the fitting process on a second pattern.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Two patterns of your choice – patterns need to be for woven fabrics not stretch jersey.
Please take note of the sizing on your pattern and ensure that you fall into them as there is not enough time for full regrading and can be learnt in a separate workshop.
Essential sewing kit – scissors, pins , etc
Fabric for your make and matching thread
We have a fabulous range of fabrics at the studio and more than happy to assist you in matching suitable choices
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
How to take accurate measurements
How to make a muslin and evaluate the fit by identifying and fixing relevant drag lines and gapes
Apply required adjustments such as, blending between sizes, full/small bust adjustments – broad/narrow back adjustment – tummy and hip issues
