Intro into Creative Pattern Making

“ Have you got a custom block but no idea how to make the most of it or transform it into a pattern style? If you’ve ever wondered how creative pattern cutting works then this is the course for you.

Pattern cutting does not have to be complex or advanced to produce interesting and creative designed garments. Simply moving a seam or a dart can produce a visually interesting garment.

Join expert Sewing Guru Claire Louise Hardie; pattern designer, sewing author, costume designer and producer of the Great British Sewing Bee, for two days of fascinating inspiration into this creative area and demystify and inspire you to create and alter your sewing patterns.

Day1- working either with your own custom block or a standard block sample, you’ll learn how to transform a simple block into a selection of pattern styles. At the end of the day you’ll be confident in dart manipulation and creating shape with 2 d patterns

Day 2- following on from day 1, you’ll learn how to create more complex pattern styles that have a drapey element like cowls or sarong skirts as well as pleating and asymmetrical details. You can bring along a fit buddy mannequin if you have one, or a standard size mannequin can be provided.
This course is about the creative element to making patterns so you don’t make either a custom mannequin or a block, although instructions for how to do so can be provided, or you could take our fit buddy class or pattern cutting class to make your block.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

Basic sewing kit – scissors – pins – marking tools

Mannequin if you own ( we have some dress-forms that can also be used )

Block sampler if you have one ( don’t worry if you don’t have one you can use a standard basic block to work on)

Basic pattern cutting tools e:g straight rule, curved rule, pencil tracing wheel
