Nothing beats sewing your own garments, and as we progress in our sewing journey, getting or improving the fit can then be the next focus.
This Six-week course will take you through fitting and pattern alterations so that you will increase your knowledge and confidence when taking on new projects.
Each week we will focus on various garment types – tops/ bodice – sleeves and trousers.
Week 1 – 2 focused on bodice fitting. Adjusting the bust area on darted, non-darted and princess seams. Plus looking at shoulder and neck fit – sway backs
Week 3 – Sleeves, adjusts the arm scythe, biceps adjustments
Week 4- 6 Trouser fitting, spotlighting on crotch fitting issues.
The aim is to make toiles of our chosen patterns, these you may have made before and had fitting issues or wish to improve the fit. We will analyse fitting problems and apply solutions through adapting our patterns.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- How to take accurate body measurements
- How to analyse fitting issues and make required pattern adjustments
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Basic Sewing essentials – pins, scissors, marking tools such as chalk or dressmakers’ carbon, rules/French curves (we have a number of these at the studio for use if you do not have any)
Patterns for tops or bodices that have darts, non-darted and princess seams ( we do have a large variety of out of print patterns that you are free to choose from if required
Toile fabric, calico, sheeting etc.
Full use of studio machines and equipment
Abundant tea/coffee refreshments including yummy biscuits and cake
