Vogue 8884 Pea Coat
Please Note Due to COvid -19 restrictionsn this Event will now be conducted remotely- Each week you will receive a sew-along video detailing step by step instructions hints and tips. We will also hold the Monday evening sessions via zoom so you have dedicated sewing time and interaction with your fellow sewists and Tutor to discuss progress and areas that you may have found problomatic.
This year’s coat making is the fabulous Vogue 8884 which depending on the view and fabric used takes on the look of a pea or trench coat. Features of this include a collar and collar band, shoulder pads, yoke two-piece sleeve. There is optional detailing with welt pockets, sleeve tabs belt loops and tie belt all topped with topstitching
Techniques involved will include sewing a straight seam, setting sleeves, attaching a collar and inserting a lining.
This workshop will run over 6 consecutive Monday evenings …NB you will be required to complete some homework consisting of straight seam sewing in between sessions.
WEEK 1
Pattern layout and cutting of outer fabric, lining and interfacings
WEEK 2
In week 2 we will be making a start on constructing our front and back yolks and pockets, stitching those lovely top stitch details
WEEK 3
We’re rocking now! week 3 will see our coats take shape with shoulder and side seams sewn. along with the collar construction and more top stitching.
WEEK 4
On the homeward stretch now in week 4. this week will see our sleeves go in with those awesome sleeve tabs
WEEK 5
Penultimate week is focused on lining and facings along with any mop up areas that we may need
WEEK 6
Here we are week 6 this week will see our lining and facings being attached to our coat – turning through and finishing techniques to complete an awesome make!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
Main Body:
- Fabric: 2-3 m of light to Medium weight woven fabrics…twill,cotton canvas, denim, gabardine, wool, wool blend or soft coat. We are happy to advice on quantity and types
- Lining: 1.5-2.5m of Dress Linings, Silk, Rayon’s, cotton lawn.
- Interlining (optional) 2m
- Interfacing: 3- 5m of nylon fusible knit interfacing.
- 1/2″ Covered Shoulder Pads
- Ten 1″ Buttons. One 2″ Buckle
- Two 11/4″ Buckles.
