Hi everyone, I’m Sue and really excited to be writing my second blog post for the lovely Amanda at The Sewcial Studio and I am sharing my latest make, the Hinterland Dress pattern by Sew Liberated.
So I just couldn’t resist another Peachskin crepe fabric from The Sewcial Studio’s lovely and very tempting stock of fabric. Amanda has a good variety of Peachskin in the shop and online. I just loved the Modern Millie design, especially as it has pops of pink and mustard (my favourite colours). It’s great for patterns requiring drape and has a lovely matte sheen finish.
I decided to make my dress with ¾ sleeves, a partial button placket on the bodice, and without the waist ties . I made the size 24. The only adjustment I made was to lower the bust dart as I found they were quite high.
The fabric washed well and was easy to cut out, no slipping or fraying. The neckline is bound, you can use ready made bias binding but I followed the pattern and cut out my own from the fabric.
Right! On to the button placket…………….I had to read the instructions quite a few times and used a scrap of fabric to practice with, somehow I kept trimming the wrong corner, so frustrating! So after some YouTubing I just sort of made it up as I went along and I’m happy to say it came out ok in the end? I think I will go back to this at some point and practice.
I completely forget about buttons and at the last minute used some Atelier Brunette buttons, I am really pleased I did, they really enhance the mustard in the fabric.
The skirt is gathered with pockets. I took a couple of inches of the skirt and double hemmed 2cm. I’m not sure if I need to go shorter but I will see how I feel after a few wears.
I really do love this pattern and definitely recommend it. It sews together easily and the fabric I used was just perfect. I am thinking of making a sleeveless linen version next. Amanda has some great choices I think it will look lovely layered with a cosy jumper for the Winter.
I hope you have enjoyed my blog post and feel inspired to make your own Hinterland Dress ?
Wishing you all a Merry Sewing Christmas Sue xx
